LET GO OF THE OLD BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again. Proverbs 19:24

Read:
Proverbs 24:30-34

I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; Proverbs 24:30

And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. Proverbs 24:31

Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. Proverbs 24:32

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: Proverbs 24:33

So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man. Proverbs 24:34

If you are overly selective of the opportunities you take among those that come your way, you may endure lack, shame, disgrace or disrespect for long time. Such attitude can alter God’s plan for you life over time. As a student who either wants first class or the first position, you must be prepared to study far above your peers. There is no success without hard work. He knows how to sort you out. But if you are lazy or failed to work hard when you had the time, be prepared to receive the comfort of the Holy Spirit after you have failed. What is your attitude to studies? Do you defer what should be done today until sometime in future? You are only making room to fail. You shall not fail. Change your attitude today!

Laziness and procrastination are two major challenges facing believers today. Sometime ago, I asked someone to make me a little fish pond and they were at it for eight months. So one day, I went to them and asked if they will be through within a year. He said it will not go beyond nine months, whereas that assignment could have been done in two weeks. If the Almighty God is still working until now, what will be your excuse for not working? According to 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, the one who will excel must be prepared to be disciplined in order to keep the body under. You can be great. There is a crowd at the bottom but too few at the top! There is plenty of room at the top, but the issue is whether you are willing to do the work that will qualify you for the top. Anyone who wants to mount up on eagles’ wings cannot afford to be lazy. Are you ready to pay the price? There are some people who sought God’s face, asking for His power and great move many years ago, but they have really not seen what they asked for. God did not give them the anointing because He was waiting for their time to come. Today, God is asking them to pay a little more price and they will see the manifestation of what they have sought because their time has come.

Bible In One Year:
Genesis 30-32

Action Point
Identify whatever makes you a slave to laziness and eliminate them now. Pray that as Nigeria marks her Independence that as many as are still in bondage will experience true freedom.

Dealing With Devourers – RCCG Open Heavens Devotional Sunday 29th September 2013
DEALING WITH DEVOURERS BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE
Memorise:
And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:11

Read:
Malachi 3:8-11

Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Malachi 3:8

Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Malachi 3:9

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Malachi 3:10

And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:11

Another area that restitution may be required in relation with God’s instructions can be seen in His dealings with Joshua and the children of Israel. Earlier, in Joshua 1:1-9, God promised to go with him and that no man would be able to stand before him throughout his life, etc so when they got to Jericho widely believed to be impregnable, just one shout, the walls came crashing down. Then one day, they came against a little town, Ai, and they were defeated. This was contrary to what God had promised him, so he fell on his face and enquired what went wrong. The Lord told him that some water had mixed with his petro (gas) and that until there was a separation, they were on their own. Until the culprit – Achan and his family were identified, isolated and destroyed and the stolen things were restored, victory continued to elude them. This tells us that restitution restores God’s presence in your life. It also sustains victory and ends defeat. So if you restitute, you are doing yourself a world of good.

Moreover, restitution silences devourers. In Malachi 3:8-11, God said all His children who are robbing Him in tithes and offerings have violated His covenant, and therefore are under a divine curse. However, He says if they will restitute their ways, He will personally rebuke the devourer for their sakes and open the windows of Heaven to them and give them a blessing they will be unable to contain. There are two type of devourers – the ones sent by the devil (John 10:10) and the ones sent by God. To deal with the devourers sent by the devil, simply resist him and he will flee from you as long as you are in right standing before God. But to deal with the devourers sent by God, it is through restitution. You will have to cry to God for forgiveness and thereafter undo what made Him to send the devourers in the first place. Do you owe God in tithes, offerings, thanksgiving or vows? Ask for forgiveness and go ahead and pay what you owe. If it is in tithes, also add 20% as interest being the penalty for eating your tithes (Leviticus 27:31).

Bible In One Year:
Ezra 5-7

Action Point
If you tolerate devourers, God will do nothing about them.

Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. Genesis 17:5

Read:
Genesis 17:1-7

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. Genesis 17:1

And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. Genesis 17:2

And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, Genesis 17:3

As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Genesis 17:4

Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. Genesis 17:5

And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. Genesis 17:6

And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. Genesis 17:7

Open Heavens Devotional Message
God is doing a new thing but some people are not prepared for it. In fact, some people have become so used to suffering that they are afraid of experiencing something different. I once prayed for somebody that when he is coming to the next convention of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, he would come in his own car. I noticed he did not say Amen, so I asked him if he heard what I said. He said he heard but that when one gets a car, he will begin to bother about a mechanic, insurance, fuel shortage and so on. There are some people who prefer to die poor. Why? They believe that if they are rich, armed robbers will begin to harass them; but are the poor also not victims of this?

If you were to compare, you will find out that being rich is still better than being poor, being full is better than being empty, progress is better than stagnation, etc. However, for the new to begin, the old must end. Take for example when Jacob experienced a change of name in Genesis 32:24-28, before he could be called Israel, his old name Jacob was done away with. God also changed Abram to Abraham and Sarai to Sarah. If there is going to be a new beginning in your life, be prepared to part with old habits, thinking and stereotypes. If you think being sick gives joy, I believe you need to think again. If you think that poverty will get you into Heaven, you need to rethink.

You can be the poorest man in the world and still end up in the hottest part of hell, whereas, you can be the richest man on earth and still be a king in Heaven. The deciding factor is not in what you have, but in salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. God does not train His children with sicknesses contrary to what people think. He received stripes for you to be healed. He has paid for your healing already because He does not want you to be sick. He gains nothing in delaying your miracle. Make bold to receive with thanksgiving what He has already accomplished for you on the Cross. Are you ready to let go of the old so that the new can have its course?

Bible In One Year:
Isaiah 51-54

Action Point
Ask God for the grace to completely leave the old for new blessings.

LIKE GREEDY DAVID? BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof. Proverbs 1:19

Read:
2 Samuel 12:7-10

And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; 2 Samuel 12:7

And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. 2 Samuel 12:8

Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. 2 Samuel 12:9

Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. 2 Samuel 12:10

Open Heavens Devotional Message
One enemy you must conquer on earth is yourself. If this is done, you will surely win other external battles because, the toughest battle is the one within. All who failed in external battles failed because they could not win the internal fight they had with lust, anger, pride, lies, disobedience, greed, unforgiveness, bitterness or vain glory. It is never too late to start that fight. Start today! May the Lord deliver victory to you!

Every major bible character had their weaknesses. The only difference was that while some brought theirs before the Lord and received help to overcome, others simply ignored theirs probably because they thought it was very small, but later it ended up defeating them. The truth is, that little vice in your character has great prospect for growth. If ignored over a period, the little foxes will become great giants. Some leaders who accommodated a little trace of anger some years ago cannot believe that today, the spirit of anger operates in them. The level of anger in them drives away enemies as well as friends, well-wishers, family and others. No sane person would like to stay or work with a highly temperamental person. Anger has destroyed several homes and relationships.

Greed had turned some friends into enemies. Greed has led to the untimely death of some business partners both in the world and in the church. Was it not greed that that led David to murder an innocent servant – Uriah even after all that God had given him? God hates greed! God has blessed some people in many ways but rather than being thankful, they are eyeing the little that others have. Do you know that some bosses are still eyeing the wives of their subordinates? Some believers that God has given several opportunities are eyeing the only opportunity that some other believers have. Some people today do not mind killing Naboth to get his only piece of land even when they have several landed properties. Yet, God told David that if what He had given him was not enough, He could have asked Him and received more. Are you a captive of greed? Repent today and fight it until God gives you the victory.

Bible In One Year:
Isaiah 47-50

Prayer Point
Father, uproot from my life every trace of anger, greed, bitterness and unforgiveness.

BENEFICIAL PROBLEMS BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Read:
Acts 8:1-8

And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. Acts 8:1

And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. Acts 8:2

As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. Acts 8:3

Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. Acts 8:4

Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. Acts 8:5

And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. Acts 8:6

For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. Acts 8:7

And there was great joy in that city. Acts 8:8

Open Heavens Devotional Message
From Mark 11:22-24, we understand that it is possible to move mountains. What is a mountain? It can mean a hindrance to progress. It can also be an obstacle preventing you from reaching your goal. A mountain can also be anything standing between you and your destiny. A hill is a problem while a mountain is a problem of a higher magnitude. Contrary to what many think and desire, mountains can really be useful. A mountain can be God’s own way of advertising you. Israel did not know David until Goliath came to the scene. God used the incessant harassment of Goliath to bring David to limelight. The mountain, through which God will advertise you, may you not run away from it. May it fulfill its divine purpose in your life!

Moreover, a mountain could be God’s way of waking you from sleep. In Acts 12:1, when Herod killed James, the church kept snoring, but when he grabbed Peter, they suddenly realised that if they did not do something about it, he would not stop at Peter but also kill the rest of them. So they began to pray. Are you sleeping spiritually? May the Lord get your attention by using a challenge to wake you up. In addition, a mountain can be God’s avenue for drawing you closer to Him. God can use it to develop you spiritual muscles. For instance, it was while Joseph was in prison that he became an interpreter of dreams. Until then, he was a mere dreamer.

Also, a mountain can help you to discover your potential. Philip never knew he had the potential to be a great evangelist until the intense persecution against the church that scattered all of them. Until then, he thought it was not enough for him to aspire to be an outstanding deacon, but when his friend and fellow deacon – Stephen was killed, and Saul was throwing Christians into prison, he ran and that was how he got to Samaria and brought joy to the city after leading them to Christ. You may never really know what is in you until you face a big problem. Henceforth, problems will have their positive effects on you.

Bible In One Year:
Isaiah 44-46

Acts 8:8

It is great to be God’s firebrand. But what could make a firebrand lose heat? This can happen when it is isolated from its source of fire. This means once you are a firebrand, do everything possible to remain connected with your source of power. God is our source of power and the greatest of fires originate from him. Hebrews 12:29 says He is a consuming fire. The fire of God is very fiery. His fire is the one that neutralizes all other types of fire. When the three Hebrew children were thrown into Nebuchadnezzar’s fire which was the hottest fire as at that time, nothing happened to them because the more superior fire was already there before their arrival. God’s presence turned the enemy’s furnace into a suitable environment (Daniel 3:19-27). At the presence of the consuming fire, all other fires lose their efficacy. Similarly, when this fire came down in 1 Kings18:38, it consumed what literarily fire cannot consume – stone and water. During ordination, we usually pray that the Almighty God will overshadow those ordained. By this we mean that God will rule over them. If a firebrand is isolated from fire for long, it can lose its flame.

In addition, a firebrand may lose its heat and become cold if it keeps the wrong company. If you take a firebrand and drop it inside water, what happens? The fire will go out! 1 Corinthians 15:33 says no matter how good you may be, if you continue to associate with evil people, it will definitely affect you some day. This is why 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns us not to be unequally yoke with unbelievers. We can simply explain Amos 3:3 to mean, show me your friends and I will show you who you are. Who are your friends? When you meet, what do you talk about? Do you talk about soul winning, anointing, expansion of God’s Kingdom or you discuss sports, politics, fashion, economy, etc.? If you will be a firebrand and sustain it, you must be prepared to review your friends. Strictly abide by the instructions given in today’s reading.

Bible In One Year:
Isaiah 40-43

Action Point
Carefully examine all your friends and prayerfully determine which to drop, and which to retain.

SOMETHING NEW IS COMING BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.2 Corinthians 5:17

Read:
Isaiah 43:18-21

18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

20 The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.

Open Heavens Devotional Message
Everything that has a beginning also has an end. The only reason God has no end is because He has no beginning. If your problem has a beginning, it must surely end one day. The woman with the issue of blood suffered for 12 years but finally, it came to an end (Mark 5:25-34). In Luke 13:11-13, a woman was sick for 18 years but finally, the sickness ended. In the same vein, the man who was born blind was blind for 40 years but after this, his sight was restored (John 9:1-7). If you can trace the beginning of your problem, then it will surely end. The man at the pool was there for 38 years. He kept hoping for healing but the healing kept eluding him. He was looking out for an angel but the creator of angels personally showed up, and that was the day he went home (John 5:2-9). Have you been expecting a particular breakthrough or healing or deliverance or blessing which has been eluding you over the years? This season, your desire shall be granted. That problem is ending now and your new season begins now!

However, it will amaze you to know that there are some people who do not want anything new. Some of them are afraid that it is better to continue with the impoverished lifestyle they grew up with than to enter a period of abundance that may erode their faith in Christ. Be encouraged and fear not. The new is always better than the old. No matter how good an old car is, it cannot be compared with a new one. Light is far better than darkness. Light is new while darkness is old. Some people have become so used to suffering, lack, failure, or barrenness that they have not only adjusted but have also resigned to fate. Don't! Never accept any condition that God does not want you to live with. Reject it and accept the new and it shall be well with you. Something new is coming your way.

Action Point
Breakout from your comfort soul and try something new in your career, relationship and lifestyle.

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. Galatians 5:17

If you look at the way saints of old overcame the old serpent, you will discover one simple method that can be applied most of the time. That method is to do the exact opposite of what the devil expects. In every situation of temptation, God has a particular way of escape for you. In the same vein, Satan has his own expectations regarding how he wants you to respond. You are the one in-between these two forces and therefore you are the one to determine which one you will choose. A safe way out is to always go contrary to the expectations of the devil. For instance, when the devil tells you to see something, you will know that a temptation and a trap is hiding somewhere, so refuse to see what he wants you to see. When he tells you to go and pay a visit to the opposite sex at an ungodly hour, simply refuse. If you obey him, you will surely regret that act.

When Satan tempted Jesus in Matthew 4:6, he justified his request with a scripture. He may ask you to visit the opposite sex at 10:00 pm because you have not seen the fellow in church, and because we are to be our brother’s keeper. Simply tell him, every good thing has its right time and back it up with what Jesus told him:

“It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God”.

Satan loves to be worshipped. It is obvious that one thing that made him to desire independence from God was the way he, the billions of angels under him and all other creatures in Heaven worshipped God. He was jealous of this unprecedented worship and thought of how he too could receive worship. Ever since he broke away, he has forced and demanded worship of men of and of fallen angels. He was so carried away by his crave for worship that he demanded worship from His creator – Jesus Christ, when He came as a man (Matthew 4:9). So, in all you do, never give credit or glory to Satan. Never bow before him or his agents and never worship him. Refuse to say what he wants said concerning a given situation. Don’t eat or drink what he wants you to take. Pray and evangelise when he gives you reasons not to. Always go in opposition to him and you will overcome.

Bible In One Year:
Numbers 4-6

Action Point
If Satan could ask Jesus to worship him, he will surely demand the same from you. Be on the look out!

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. James 2:18

Read:
James 2:14-17

What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? James 2:14

If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, James 2:15

And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? James 2:16

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. James 2:17
Open Heavens Devotional Message
Elijah in 1 Kings 18:41-44 brought an end to a situation of famine that had plagued the land for three and a half years. We can learn from the process he went through in order to bring about the manifestation of change in this situation of drought. In addition to hearing God, declaring what He had said and intense prayer, the man of God also added some other action. He asked his servant to keep going back to check the skyline for signs of rain. James 2:14-17 says the faith that fails to be backed up by works is a dead faith.

One lesson here underscores the need to be spiritually alert while praying. Why? If you watch and pray and you are spiritually sensitive, you will see the signs in the spiritual skyline that will tell you that your prayer has been answered. Sometimes, such signs may appear quite insignificant or almost unnoticeable, yet, if you are sensitive enough, it will not pass you by. When you watch and pray, you will not pray blind prayers any more. When you pray, do you watch out for signs of answer to your prayer?

On the other hand, there is need for works to give life to your faith. Hebrews 11:6 says God rewards those who diligently seek Him. Do you seek Him diligently? Yes the tide is turning for your good but you’ve got to act and go beyond prayer. If you need a job, you need to write and forward your applications to organisations and follow them up, asking whether they received your applications, the time for tests and interviews etc.

As a student, if you want to come out in flying colours, you must study. In 1964, my professor told me you have to go over a given text 10 times if you truly want it to stick in your memory. If you want to reach the top, acquire a skill. Whatever you are doing, be very good at it. If you are a tailor, carpenter or fisherman, be the best in that field. God is looking for diligent, hardworking and skilled people that He will prosper. One of my friends introduced his brother to me as a tailor who just qualified and requested that I patronise him. I gave him some material to sew a pair of trousers and he sewed something else. I told my friend that his brother is a barber and not a tailor. Be diligent from today!

Bible In One Year:
John 1-3

Action Point
Some signs may be a flash of less than a minute, ask God for grace not to lose divine messages.

What Kind Of Flight? – RCCG Open Heavens Devotional Monday 10th September 2013
WHAT KIND OF FLIGHT? BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. Isaiah 46:4

Read:
Isaiah 46:3-4

Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb: Isaiah 46:3

And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. Isaiah 46:4

Open Heavens Devotional Message
Every genuinely converted believer in Christ is raised up ad set up to sit in Christ Jesus in heavenly places. For such people, Colossians 3:1-4 should be their watchword. Since they are seated in heavenly places in Christ, they should have their eyes set on things that are above, they should also love and desire things that are heavenly. One reason a lot of Christians are not experiencing motion by flying and a reason why some others crash while flying is that they are still looking at the things of the earth, instead of heavenly things.

Looking at flying from a spiritual perspective, there are at least two ways to fly: with your own energy and with God’s energy. When birds fly, they usually spend their energy; but a man who travels by an aeroplane flies without any effort. He does not sweat, he eats and drinks, watches video and even has the luxury of using the lavatory while flying. He may strike a business deal with someone or he may decide to sleep, all while still flying. It is not enough to decide to fly; you must equally determine how you want to fly. In Exodus 19:3-4, when God was bringing the children of Israel out of bondage, He carried them on eagles’ wings. None of their individual or collective effort could free them all these years, but when God intervened, He delivered them from bondage and placed them where the enemy could no longer touch them.

Moreover, when a bird is flying, if it has any item to take to its destination, it would have to carry with its beak. This is a form of load which could also act as a drag on the bird while in flight. It is not easy to fly and at the same time carry a form of load. If such load is heavy, it will retard the speed of flight of the bird. However, if you are flying in aeroplane and you have any luggage, the aeroplane will carry both you and your luggage. Isaiah 53:4-5 says that God is not only able to carry you, but also can carry your burdens. What are your cares today? What are the things causing worry in your heart? Lay them at His feet by prayer and leave them there. After telling the Lord, like Hannah, stop worrying about them from that moment.

Bible In One Year:
2 Samuel 22-24

Action Point
Cast your cares and burdens upon the Lord in prayers and watch Him bare you up on eagles’ wings.

Isaiah 46:4

MAKING GOD FULFILL HIS WORD BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. James 5:18

Read:
James 5:16-18

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16

Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. James 5:17

And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. James 5:18
Open Heavens Devotional Message
In 1 Kings 18:41-45, after the man of God heard the sound of abundance of rain, he spoke it out. Amos 3;8 says.

“The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?”

When God has spoken to you, then you should prophesy. You can declare what He has said except He tells you to keep it to yourself. Beyond declaring it, the man of God embarked upon intense prayer. But why pray when he had already heard from God and he knows what he had heard? Psalm, 115:3 says God does as He pleases. 1 Samuel 2:30 says the same God who earlier made a promise to Eli later revoked His promise. He can say something and because of certain circumstances He can say He is no longer saying so, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Elijah also knew of God’s promise in 2 Chronicles 7: 14, that if he approached God in reverence, humility and submission to His will, God will hear and answer.

This is one lesson we ought to learn today. Many times, we take for granted that because God has said something, He will surely do it. We refuse to follow up on His promise. Some of us even do things that offend God, capable of changing His mind, yet we expect Him to remain committed to His promise. The truth is that in the process of time, many people have disqualified themselves from an earlier divine promise.

Do you take time to pray God’s promises into manifestation? If God says He will give you victory over a particular enemy, hold Him by that promise until He fulfills it. But if it is something negative such as a judgment, go into prayer and fasting and humble yourself yielding completely to Him, so that He can reverse it. While holding on to God in prayer, ensure you do everything to please Him. Praise Him. Worship Him with your whole heart. Obey all His instructions and make Him happy. Keep totally away from sin and also remind Him of His Word. When you do all these, He will surely answer you.

Bible In One Year:
1 Samuel 29-31

Action Point
Thank God for what He has promised you. Now ask Him to bring it to pass today.

And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. Hebrews 1:7

Repercussion for sins done on earth will not only come in eternity but also in this present world. During one of the Divine Encounter services we had sometimes ago, I asked the Lord what was happening concerning His promise to raise several millionaires and He replied: “Do you want me to prosper those who are stealing?” this speaks of the limitation of man.

There was this surgeon in charge of bones in one of the Nigerian hospitals. Whenever someone who had an accident was brought to him, he would take a look and charge exorbitantly. If they complain about his fee, he would pick up an axe and threaten to amputate the leg. Through this means, he got people in pain and sorrow to pay him and he became very wealthy. Then one day, he too took ill and went everywhere but the problem could not be diagnosed. After he spent all he had, it was then he got to know that he was suffering from cancer of the liver, and yet he could not survive it.

What are you pursuing? Elisha was pursuing the double portion of the anointing on his master. Esau was pursuing food. Judas was pursuing money! When I was still very young in the faith, my prayer night and day was that I did not want to be an ordinary Christian. Are you a minister of God? What are you pursuing? What is taking most of your time? What is giving you the greatest level of happiness? If it is mundane things, then like Gehazi, then you have missed it.

Focusing on the wrong things accounts for a greater percentage of wastage in the Kingdom of God. According to Hebrews 1:7, God’s servant should be fire brand. You were called to be a flame of fire. You are supposed to be hot because you operate from God’s power house. Take a look at Elijah who was indeed a fire brand and could call fire down on anyone who messed up with him. Where is your own fire? Where is the heat you were supposed to generate? Go back to God for that fire!

Bible In One Year:
Song of Solomon 7-8

Ask for a fresh baptism of fire.

DARE TO BE DIFFERENT! BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:8

Daniel 1:8-16

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:8

Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. Daniel 1:9

And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king. Daniel 1:10

Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, Daniel 1:11

Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. Daniel 1:12

Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants. Daniel 1:13

So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days. Daniel 1:14

And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat. Daniel 1:15

Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse. Daniel 1:16

To shine is to be peculiar according to 1 Peter 2:9. Those who are peculiar are usually different. It also means to stand out from the crowd. In 2 Kings 2:1-8, there were many sons of the prophets but only Elisha stood out and shone all the way. To shine you must be willing to be special. Acts 19:11-12 says God performed special miracles through one of His servants who was willing to shine. Do you know that God is ready to use you to do the impossible?

Do you know that everything you need to succeed in life and ministry is already prepared by God? The problem is that we are not willing: we are often not ready. Do you know some of us keep God on His toes? He is ever ready but are we? Before God ever sent you on an errand, He had provided everything for you to successfully carry out that assignment. Even when you are faced with lack, God does not see any lack because He has made provision for all things. All you need to do is to go to Him in all sincerity and ask.

Another reason many of us cannot shine is because we refuse to pay the price to shine. God will not ask you to pay the price that you cannot. He is no taskmaster. If you are special, your standard must be quite high. You cannot afford to eat what every other person is eating. Daniel was special and he refused what others ate and at the end, he and his pals had a different result from every other person

If you want to end differently let your consecration level and loyalty level be different. If you do what every other person is doing, but expect to end somewhere else, then you must be a joker. Are you prepared to pray more intensively, worship more in spirit and truth and study the Word as never before? Are you prepared to make sacrifices for the kingdom? It is what you are prepared to give up or to give in that will determine what God is willing to give out to you.

Bible In One Year:
Song of Solomon 4-6

Action Point
Ask God for the grace to be positively different.

Psalm 111:10 says if you will be wise at all, you will start by fearing God. Proverbs 3:7 says,

“Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.”
Proverbs 3:7

This means it is not what men think wisdom is that is truly wisdom but what God calls wisdom. Also, it tells us that it is wisdom to avoid sin in its entirety and foolishness to live in sin. Are you born-again? God says you have started your journey into wisdom. Any step into sin therefore is dumping wisdom for foolishness. Show me a wise believer and I will show you a believer who keeps sin at arms-length. How close are you to sin?

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”
Proverbs 11:30

Another yardstick for measuring wisdom is the ability to win souls. The scripture did not say the fellow who wins a soul to Christ once in a long while – say three or six months, is wise, but the fellow who continues to win souls. If you win souls once in a while, you are to be commended: you are at the periphery of wisdom. But if you want to be counted as wise, you must do so more often. We live at the end time and there is a massive assignment God has for today believers in Christ that involves serious, planned and sustained soul winning.

The wise believers will be actively involved in soul winning irrespective of their primary calling or department, while the foolish believers will occupy themselves with activities that have no bearing with soul winning. Someday God will draw a line between the wise and the foolish, between the soul winners and believers who refuse to win souls. On that day, where will you fall? How many souls have you won to the Lord this year, this month or this week? Key into soul winning and key into wisdom and eternal blessing today!

For over three years, there had been no rain. Suddenly, Elijah emerged and said he heard the sound of much rain. This ultimately led to a turnaround. We ought to learn some lessons from this story.

“And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.”
1 Kings 18:41

In the midst of so much famine and dryness, the man of God heard the inaudible. Amos 3:7 says before God does anything, He would first reveal it to at least one of His prophets. Revelation 2:7 says the Spirit is saying something but it will take only those who have spiritual ears to hear the divine message. This shows that in the unpleasant situation you are going through, God is saying something. Have you heard what God is saying? Concerning that situation of joblessness, God is saying something. Concerning that need for a spouse, God is saying something. Concerning that state of famine or financial dryness, God is saying something. But have you heard what the Spirit is saying to you about that situation? Before you know the next thing to do, first know what He is saying.

In addition, after the man of God heard something, he spoke it out – that is, he announced it or prophesied about it even when the situation appeared bleak. The best time to prophesy or announce what God has spoken to you concerning a situation is when it is still hopeless, helpless and bleak. In Genesis 1:1-3, it was in the midst of chaos, emptiness and darkness that God spoke. What are you saying in that situation of repeated disappointment? Stop confessing negative things, but start speaking God’s word into your negative situation. As you speak His word or promise into your dark situation, God’s light is released and as you continue to prophesy the word, the light of God continues to spread in that situation until it completely takes over the situation, leaving you with nothing but a testimony. Confess God’s word into your situation from today.

Revelation 7:15-17

Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. Revelation 7:15

They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. Revelation 7:16

Apart from consuming stones, the fire that came down from heaven equally dried up the water poured on and around the sacrifice Elijah made on mount Carmel (1 Kings18:38). Water here stands for tears and sorrow. One reason the Holy Spirit is called comforter is because He is a specialist at delivering comfort to those who are in sorrow or who are hurting. Revelation 7:17 says,

“For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”

If you are a man or woman of the Spirit, He will definitely use you to deliver comfort to those in need of it. The level of comfort you are able to deliver to your generation is a function of the measure of the Holy Spirit you have in you, and the level of closeness you share with Him.

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;”
Isaiah 61:1

From the above scripture, we see that it takes the infilling of the Spirit to be able to effectively preach salvation to the lost sinners, heal broken hearts, set the captive free and release inmates from Satan’s prison. If a pastor is full of the Spirit and he is transferred to a parish with lots of sorrow, sickness, poverty, loss, failure, etc., you will discover that before long, all those tokens of the liar will disappear and in place of tears, there shall be tears of joy and lots of miracles. If you want to truly be of help to anyone – be it in ministerial or secular matters, get close to the Holy Spirit. When you have the Spirit in you, you will save lots of effort and needless struggles. Merely saying, ‘It is well’ to a hurting fellow will have a great impact in comfort. Besides merely showing sympathy, if you are full with the Holy Spirit, He can reverse the source of the sorrow and deliver permanent joy. Are you prepared to impact your generation?

1 Samuel 1:9-18

(1 Samuel 1:9)  So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

(1 Samuel 1:10)  And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

(1 Samuel 1:11)  And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

(1 Samuel 1:12)  And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.

(1 Samuel 1:13)  Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

(1 Samuel 1Sa 1:14)  And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.

(1 Samuel 1:15)  And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

(1 Samuel 1:16)  Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.

(1 Samuel 1:17)  Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

(1 Samuel 1:18)  And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

Certain events take place at some point in one's life which causes one's hope to soar. This season, your hope will soar. In 1 Samuel 1:9-18, Hannah had been going to Shiloh and had been praying without receiving any change in her situation. She was probably never noticed. But one day, while praying, the man of God noticed her but misjudged her – taking her for a drunkard; by the time she explained herself, the man of God asked God to grant her request. From that moment, Hannah was no longer sad; she was free with everybody and happy because suddenly her hope began to rise. Even though she was yet to see the manifestation of her miracle, she had however experienced an incident that had convinced her beyond reasonable doubts that the tide will surely turn.

Similarly, in Mark 10:46-52, blind Bartimaeus had been staying at the same road side begging for years without receiving the help he so much needed, until one day, the Helper of the helpless passed by. As he began to shout out the name of Jesus, he heard someone say, 'Be of good cheer, Jesus is calling you'. On hearing that good news, his hope arose. The king of glory was about to pass judgment on his problem of many years. Yes, his hope soared high even though he was not yet healed. He threw away his garment and headed for the Lord because something told him that at last, his tide was about to turn.

Also, in Acts 3:1-8, the lame man had begged from the same location for several years until he gave up hope of ever receiving any healing other than alms. But one day, the same men who had always given him alms came by and as usual, he asked and they said to him, 'Focus on us'. As he looked on them, he saw the glory of God. At that point, hope arose in his heart to receive something of them. It does not matter how long you have been at that particular bus stop of your life, the Lord is passing your way this season. Let your hope arise today, be full of expectation of his touch because the tide is about to turn in your favour.

Open Heavens Devotional Message
God is calling every believer to arise and shine. You can shine like the sun by burning a bit of yourself bit by bit through giving. You can also shine like the moon. How? The moon receives light from the sun and reflects it to the world. Shortly before His ascension, the Lord gave an instruction to His disciples in Mark 16:15-18. He was simply asking them to go in His name, take the light from Him and reflect it to the world. You need to reflect His light because of the gross darkness that will cover the earth.

One characteristic of light is that it attracts all kinds of things, both good and bad. If you turn on a light bulb in the midst of the night, it will attract all kinds of insects. Just as light attracts good things, so does it also attracts bad, ugly and evil things. In effect, the moment you begin to shine, be on your guard. The moment your church begins to grow or to achieve for God, get ready for those who will want to pull it down.

Someone once said there are witches in the Redeemed Christian Church of God and I told him there are many of them. Some of them may even be among workers, choir, wives of ministers and pastors. I also added that the church is God’s hospital and in every good hospital, you will have the worst or most challenging cases. However, light also attracts kings, princes and nobles and you need these in your church. Do you know that we are yet to have the best singers, instrumentalists, prayer champions, ushers and ministers?

Do you know that those who may be used of God to take your church to the next level are yet in the world as unconverted souls? If your light does not attract them, what a disservice that would be to the body of Christ! Some sisters are praying for husbands meanwhile God’s right choice for them may still be ‘enjoying’ the world. It is when we reach out to these that such prayers may be answered. In the same vein, some helpers that God will use in taking you to your next level might still be unsaved. The more souls are saved, the greater our chances of accessing such potential brethren.

Who Do You Fear? – RCCG Open Heavens Devotional Friday 2nd August 2013
WHO DO YOU FEAR? BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. Proverbs 29:25

Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD. Proverbs 29:26

An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked. Proverbs 29:27

Open Heavens Message
The favourites of God often share similarities with eagle. One outstanding trait of the eagle is its ability to see its enemy coming long before it arrives, and as a result, decide on how to deal with it. Usually, when a snake is about to penetrate the nest of an eagle, the latter would have seen it earlier. The eagle will wait for the right moment to strike. Without warning, it will strike by grabbing it by the neck, take it to a great height and drop it from there. This will lead to the death of the snake.

As a favourite of God, when the enemies are planning their evil attack, the Lord will reveal it to you so that you will know how to handle your enemies. How often does God forewarn you of the plans of your enemies? When Herod was seeking the life of baby Jesus, Joseph was warned. If you hardly ever get divine warning about the scheme of your enemies, it is doubtful if you are God’s favourite. It simply means you need to work on your relationship with God.

In addition, the favourite of God enjoys divine security which leads to unusual boldness. Hence, Proverbs 28:1 says such believer have the boldness you find in lions. If you are a divine favourite, you will fear no man but God. Proverbs 29:25 says,

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.”

Whenever you are afraid of a man, you will definitely fall into a pit. There is a link between the fear of man and snares. If you carry out a fact-finding quest on those who found themselves in one trap or another, you will discover that majority of them got there because they were afraid of somebody or some persons. The fear of the Israelites made king Saul to be rejected.

If you are afraid of offending men because you do not want to be sacked, spoken against or prosecuted, you will definitely offend God. Men are not to be feared but loved, respected or honoured. God is the only one you should fear. God’s favourites do not care about the opinions of men but about what God thinks about them. What do you fear?

Power In The Blood – RCCG Open Heavens Devotional Sunday 1st August 2013
POWER IN THE BLOOD BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26:28

Read:
Matthew 26:26-28
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. Matthew 26:26

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; Matthew 26:27

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26:28

Open Heavens Message
Wrong use of the tongue can be so destructive that it can forever severe one’s link with the Saviour in a situation such as blaspheming against the Holy Spirit. May this never be your portion in Jesus name. However, avoid everything that attracts you into sin as they are targeted at breaking your link with the Vine. Just feeding your eyes lustfully for a few minutes on pornographic materials and websites could have the end result of breaking the tree-branch relationship that exists between Jesus and you.

At the first Holy Communion service with the disciples, the Lord said,

“For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”
Matthew 26:28

In other words, He was saying that if you have been detached from the Vine and already withering, when you reconcile with God and receive the blood, you will be revived. The blood is so powerful that it can flush out every stranger hibernating in your body. Matthew 15:13 says,

“But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up”.

The doctors will tell you that one reason you bleed after cutting your skin is because the body system recognizes that once there is an opening in the body, strangers can come in; so the blood rushes out to prevent strangers from coming in. Is there any contamination in your system? It shall be uprooted. Every virus, germ or bacteria hibernating in your system shall die and be flushed out as you partake of the blood of Jesus Christ made available through the Holy Communion. Revelation 12 :11 says the blood of Jesus can give you victory over the devil.

As you partake of the Holy Communion, key into it in faith and receive your victory over forces of darkness. As soon as the sick branch is healed, it begins to bear fruit again (John 15:5). Are you a sick branch? Or have you become detached through compromising with sin? Repent from your heart, dump that sin that broke you away from the Vine and reconnect today. If you are not yet born-again, it means you have never been connected to the Lover of your soul. Confess your sins, forsake them and invite Jesus Christ into your heart and confess Him as your Lord. As you do so, you will be attached to the Vine.
