Ways of Rising, Open Heavens Devotional, Open Heavens, Daily Devotion, Prayer Point,
WAYS OF RISING BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE
Memorise:
I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
Psalms 40:1

Read:
Judges 6:11-16

And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. Judges 6:11

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. Judges 6:12

And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. Judges 6:13

And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? Judges 6:14

And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house. Judges 6:15

And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man. Judges 6:16

If you are prepared to start small, God is prepared to turn that small thing into something beyond your wildest imagination. This season, hope will arise for you in Jesus name. there are different ways to arise, one way is by being pushed up. One person that was pushed up was Moses. In Exodus 4:10-17, God told him he was going to be used to deliver His people, but he refused. God showed him some miracles to convince him but he still did not yield, so God had to push him up. Another person God pushed up was Joshua. In Joshua 1:1-8, God had to tell him thrice to be strong and to be of good courage because he was afraid of stepping into the shoe of his master. What of Gideon? God chose him but he refused to yield so God had to push him up (Judges 6:11-16). In any way you are refusing to key into God’s plan for your life, the Lord will push you up in Jesus name.

Another way to experience a rise is to be pulled up. Psalm 40:1-3 describes how God brought up the Psalmist from the miry clay, set him on the rock and established him. Also, in 1 Samuel 16:11-13, David who was only a shepherd boy saw himself being anointed king in the midst of his able-bodied brothers. God pulled him up. In the name that is above every other name, wherever you are, in the depth of sin, sickness, lack, ignominy, shame, disgrace, bondage or defeat, the Lord will pull you up this season. Yet, a third way to rise is to be carried up. Isaiah 40:31 talks of people mounting up on eagles’ wings. In 2 Kings 2:11, Elijah was carried up into Heaven by chariots of fire. In 1 Kings 1:11-40, Solomon did not know what was going on and suddenly he was declared king. This season, the Lord will carry you on wings like the eagle. Your effort will not solely be the determinant factor but also His favour and grace. You will see yourself rising from now on. It is your set time of favour (Psalm 102:13). You shall begin to rise and no one and nothing will be able to stop you.

Bible In One Year:
Genesis 33-36

Prayer Point
Father, beyond my expectations, lift me up.

LET GO OF THE OLD BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again. Proverbs 19:24

Read:
Proverbs 24:30-34

I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; Proverbs 24:30

And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. Proverbs 24:31

Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. Proverbs 24:32

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: Proverbs 24:33

So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man. Proverbs 24:34

Open Heavens Devotional Message
If you are overly selective of the opportunities you take among those that come your way, you may endure lack, shame, disgrace or disrespect for long time. Such attitude can alter God’s plan for you life over time. As a student who either wants first class or the first position, you must be prepared to study far above your peers. There is no success without hard work. He knows how to sort you out. But if you are lazy or failed to work hard when you had the time, be prepared to receive the comfort of the Holy Spirit after you have failed. What is your attitude to studies? Do you defer what should be done today until sometime in future? You are only making room to fail. You shall not fail. Change your attitude today!

Laziness and procrastination are two major challenges facing believers today. Sometime ago, I asked someone to make me a little fish pond and they were at it for eight months. So one day, I went to them and asked if they will be through within a year. He said it will not go beyond nine months, whereas that assignment could have been done in two weeks. If the Almighty God is still working until now, what will be your excuse for not working? According to 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, the one who will excel must be prepared to be disciplined in order to keep the body under. You can be great. There is a crowd at the bottom but too few at the top! There is plenty of room at the top, but the issue is whether you are willing to do the work that will qualify you for the top. Anyone who wants to mount up on eagles’ wings cannot afford to be lazy. Are you ready to pay the price? There are some people who sought God’s face, asking for His power and great move many years ago, but they have really not seen what they asked for. God did not give them the anointing because He was waiting for their time to come. Today, God is asking them to pay a little more price and they will see the manifestation of what they have sought because their time has come.

Bible In One Year:
Genesis 30-32

Action Point
Identify whatever makes you a slave to laziness and eliminate them now. Pray that as Nigeria marks her Independence that as many as are still in bondage will experience true freedom.

MIDWIVES ARE REWARDED BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:3

Read:
John 14:1-3

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. John 14:1

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:3

Open Heavens Devotional Message
Can you dare to stand alone? Can you dare to stand on the side of God while the government is against you? The midwives of Exodus 1 fell out of favour with the government of the day but they did not care. As a result of their sacrificial obedience to God, they entered into favour with God and began to receive special divine care according to Exodus 1:20. In fact, verse 21 says,

“And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.”

This could mean those who were single and searching found their right spouses and got married. It could also mean that those who were married had peace and multiplication in their homes. Also, this could mean that tenants among them became landladies by divine favour and speed. Beloved, are people laughing at you while you are obeying the King of kings? Are they calling you a fool because you refuse to compromise like others are doing to succeed? Are people saying you do not know the shortcut to prosperity? Never mind. Stay focused on your God-given assignment! God did not forget the midwives; He will also not forget you. God gave them households. God will not forget you or your labour in soul winning!

In John 14:1-3, the Lord assures us that He is building mansions for us. Many years ago, the Lord took me in a vision to a place in a city beyond compare in beauty. I saw a house under construction which was massive and had many rooms. The labourers were busy working at it. When I asked the Lord who owns the house, He said, ‘Son, this is your house’, expecting that since there is no night in Heaven, when my children come to pay me visits, they will have rooms to stay. He said the building is still going on as long as I am winning souls. Beloved, whether people believe it or not, I know what I saw. I saw mansions in Heaven. I have seen my own building. The Lord is equally building yours. Are committed to winning souls? Soul winners are so dear to God’s heart that He makes them relevant both in time and in eternity. How much have you worked for your heavenly reward?

Bible In One Year:
Ezra 8-10

Prayer Point
Father, help me to serve you acceptably so that I do not lose my earthly and eternal rewards.

DEALING WITH DEVOURERS BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE
Memorise:
And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:11

Read:
Malachi 3:8-11

Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Malachi 3:8

Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Malachi 3:9

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Malachi 3:10

And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:11

Open Heavens Devotional Message
Another area that restitution may be required in relation with God’s instructions can be seen in His dealings with Joshua and the children of Israel. Earlier, in Joshua 1:1-9, God promised to go with him and that no man would be able to stand before him throughout his life, etc so when they got to Jericho widely believed to be impregnable, just one shout, the walls came crashing down. Then one day, they came against a little town, Ai, and they were defeated. This was contrary to what God had promised him, so he fell on his face and enquired what went wrong. The Lord told him that some water had mixed with his petro (gas) and that until there was a separation, they were on their own. Until the culprit – Achan and his family were identified, isolated and destroyed and the stolen things were restored, victory continued to elude them. This tells us that restitution restores God’s presence in your life. It also sustains victory and ends defeat. So if you restitute, you are doing yourself a world of good.

Moreover, restitution silences devourers. In Malachi 3:8-11, God said all His children who are robbing Him in tithes and offerings have violated His covenant, and therefore are under a divine curse. However, He says if they will restitute their ways, He will personally rebuke the devourer for their sakes and open the windows of Heaven to them and give them a blessing they will be unable to contain. There are two type of devourers – the ones sent by the devil (John 10:10) and the ones sent by God. To deal with the devourers sent by the devil, simply resist him and he will flee from you as long as you are in right standing before God. But to deal with the devourers sent by God, it is through restitution. You will have to cry to God for forgiveness and thereafter undo what made Him to send the devourers in the first place. Do you owe God in tithes, offerings, thanksgiving or vows? Ask for forgiveness and go ahead and pay what you owe. If it is in tithes, also add 20% as interest being the penalty for eating your tithes (Leviticus 27:31).

Bible In One Year:
Ezra 5-7

Action Point
If you tolerate devourers, God will do nothing about them.

STARTING SMALL BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase. Job 8:7

Read:
Zechariah 4:6-10

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. Zechariah 4:6

Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it. Zechariah 4:7

Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Zechariah 4:8

The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you. Zechariah 4:9

For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth. Zechariah 4:10

Open Heavens Devotional Message
God has appointed time to visit an individual. May your appointed time brig you utmost joy. In 1Kings 18:41-45, at the seventh time of intensive prayer, the servant of the man of God saw a small sign in the sky, yet the rain would fall, it was massive. This simply tells us that whenever God is to do something great, He starts small. Due to lack of understanding of this, many people have missed God’s plan for their lives. They say God told them He was going to use them mightily but they wonder why they are being given very negligible assignments now.

They turned down their small assignment and miss the big ones that should have come out of the small. For those who are over selective concerning matters that God has spoken about, please heed this warning. There are small jobs whose assignment in your life is not to give you your desire haven of rest and comfort, but to link up with that choice of job or assignment! Be very careful how you handle these little assignments. Do you know that you will be assessed on how you handled the smaller jobs or tasks to determine whether you qualify for the big? If you fail in the little, you may be truncated from the big ones.

Zechariah 4:10 says you should not despise the day you started small. Those in senior ecclesiastical positions today did not get there overnight. They started small and today they have been promoted to where they currently are. The mustard seed is the smallest among seeds yet its tree is a giant. Some people want to start a business but they continue to wait until they have a large capital when others have started similar businesses with a very little amount. Let God begin something great through you. Be ready to start small. Do not be afraid to take that step. Some people are fighting to get a job where designed not to be employees, but employers of labour. Jobs 8:7 assures you that as long as you are with the Lord, your latter end shall be very great.

Bible in one year:
Isaiah 61-63

Key Point
If little assignment has no place in your life, God would not have brought them.

To fly as an eagle, you need to balance anointing with holiness. Each wing cannot do with the other. Why? Without holiness, anointing is like a machine gun in the hand of a mad man. Samson had anointing but lack holiness and it led to his untimely death. Also, some people want victory over the battle confronting them but they are not ready to pay the price. James 4:7 says,

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you”.

They say first thing first. It is after you submit that the victory will come. Some people do not want to submit to authority and yet they want to command the devil and expect him to obey. It is not possible because a bird does not fly with one wing.

In the same vein, many people want breakthrough in their finances. They pray, fast and attend breakthrough programmes but even though they know what Malachi 3:10 says, they are not prepared to obey. How then will the breakthroughs come? If you satisfy God’s conditions, He will surely keep to His own side of bargain. In addition, promotion works hand in hand with diligence. Proverbs 22:29 says,

“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”

Many Christians want to prosper or become great without necessarily working hard. Some are praying and fasting for prosperity but do not want to work. They are so selective of jobs that they prefer to stay idle or jobless until they get their choice job. But God does not often work that way. God is no magician but a miracle worker. He rewards those who take up the little and do their best. If Joseph had said he will not serve in any lesser capacity than what his dream had depicted, he would never have realised that dream. Some people are stuck between where they are and their destiny because they refuse to accept the available ‘small’ opportunities. Stop limiting yourself! God watches our attitudes. It is your faithfulness in the ‘little’ that will make way for the bigger doors. If you are too selective, your real problem may be pride or laziness, and God hates lazy bones.

Bible In One Year:
Isaiah 58-60

Key Point
When you work hard, let your confidence still be in God, otherwise you could be disappointed.

TIME TO RESTITUTE BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men. Acts 24:16

Read:
Acts 23:1-5

And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day. Acts 23:1

And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth. Acts 23:2

Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law? Acts 23:3

And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest? Acts 23:4

Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people. Acts 23:5

Open Heavens Devotional Message
According to Matthew 18:6, believers who cause young converts and fellow believers to backslide cannot escape their evil deed both now and in eternity. Jesus says it is better a millstone was tied to their necks and they be drowned in the depth of the sea. If you have led believers to backslide, repent today and bring them back to the fold or face God’s judgment. On that day, when all human beings ever created by God will stand before the Great White Throne for judgment, there will be no place to hide. You still have the opportunity to correct the false teachings you taught people in your Sunday school class, Believers class or House Fellowship, which led some astray. You can mend your ways today because God is still keeping you alive. A day is coming when there will no longer be time for you on earth. When your time is up, what next, if not to face eternity – prepared or not?

In a particular church several years ago, it was an altar minister who went in the guise of visiting new members, to discourage them from continuing with the church. Much later, the new member confessed to the pastor. Several years later, even though that minister had become a parish pastor, things refuse to normalise in his life and ministry. If you have taken some members of the church to occultic houses in the name of seeking help, and through that such members have backslidden, repent and go after them. See your pastor and confess to him, so that he can pray along with you. Some workers have left their local assemblies because of incessant sexual harassment by a minister or pastor which started during a counselling session. If you fail to repent, confess the sin and restitute, you may be separated from your works and rewards. You may miss Heaven while your rewards will be in Heaven. Nobody outgrows restitution. According to today’s reading, even Paul apologised to the high priest as a form of restitution.

Bible In One Year:
Isaiah 55-57

Key Point
Repentance and restitution go hand in hand. While the former clears the way with God, the latter clears the way with men.

Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. Genesis 17:5

Read:
Genesis 17:1-7

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. Genesis 17:1

And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. Genesis 17:2

And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, Genesis 17:3

As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Genesis 17:4

Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. Genesis 17:5

And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. Genesis 17:6

And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. Genesis 17:7

Open Heavens Devotional Message
God is doing a new thing but some people are not prepared for it. In fact, some people have become so used to suffering that they are afraid of experiencing something different. I once prayed for somebody that when he is coming to the next convention of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, he would come in his own car. I noticed he did not say Amen, so I asked him if he heard what I said. He said he heard but that when one gets a car, he will begin to bother about a mechanic, insurance, fuel shortage and so on. There are some people who prefer to die poor. Why? They believe that if they are rich, armed robbers will begin to harass them; but are the poor also not victims of this?

If you were to compare, you will find out that being rich is still better than being poor, being full is better than being empty, progress is better than stagnation, etc. However, for the new to begin, the old must end. Take for example when Jacob experienced a change of name in Genesis 32:24-28, before he could be called Israel, his old name Jacob was done away with. God also changed Abram to Abraham and Sarai to Sarah. If there is going to be a new beginning in your life, be prepared to part with old habits, thinking and stereotypes. If you think being sick gives joy, I believe you need to think again. If you think that poverty will get you into Heaven, you need to rethink.

You can be the poorest man in the world and still end up in the hottest part of hell, whereas, you can be the richest man on earth and still be a king in Heaven. The deciding factor is not in what you have, but in salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. God does not train His children with sicknesses contrary to what people think. He received stripes for you to be healed. He has paid for your healing already because He does not want you to be sick. He gains nothing in delaying your miracle. Make bold to receive with thanksgiving what He has already accomplished for you on the Cross. Are you ready to let go of the old so that the new can have its course?

Bible In One Year:
Isaiah 51-54

Action Point
Ask God for the grace to completely leave the old for new blessings.

LIKE GREEDY DAVID? BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof. Proverbs 1:19

Read:
2 Samuel 12:7-10

And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; 2 Samuel 12:7

And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. 2 Samuel 12:8

Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. 2 Samuel 12:9

Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. 2 Samuel 12:10

One enemy you must conquer on earth is yourself. If this is done, you will surely win other external battles because, the toughest battle is the one within. All who failed in external battles failed because they could not win the internal fight they had with lust, anger, pride, lies, disobedience, greed, unforgiveness, bitterness or vain glory. It is never too late to start that fight. Start today! May the Lord deliver victory to you!

Every major bible character had their weaknesses. The only difference was that while some brought theirs before the Lord and received help to overcome, others simply ignored theirs probably because they thought it was very small, but later it ended up defeating them. The truth is, that little vice in your character has great prospect for growth. If ignored over a period, the little foxes will become great giants. Some leaders who accommodated a little trace of anger some years ago cannot believe that today, the spirit of anger operates in them. The level of anger in them drives away enemies as well as friends, well-wishers, family and others. No sane person would like to stay or work with a highly temperamental person. Anger has destroyed several homes and relationships.

Greed had turned some friends into enemies. Greed has led to the untimely death of some business partners both in the world and in the church. Was it not greed that that led David to murder an innocent servant – Uriah even after all that God had given him? God hates greed! God has blessed some people in many ways but rather than being thankful, they are eyeing the little that others have. Do you know that some bosses are still eyeing the wives of their subordinates? Some believers that God has given several opportunities are eyeing the only opportunity that some other believers have. Some people today do not mind killing Naboth to get his only piece of land even when they have several landed properties. Yet, God told David that if what He had given him was not enough, He could have asked Him and received more. Are you a captive of greed? Repent today and fight it until God gives you the victory.

Bible In One Year:
Isaiah 47-50

Father, uproot from my life every trace of anger, greed, bitterness and unforgiveness.

BENEFICIAL PROBLEMS BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Read:
Acts 8:1-8

And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. Acts 8:1

And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. Acts 8:2

As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. Acts 8:3

Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. Acts 8:4

Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. Acts 8:5

And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. Acts 8:6

For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. Acts 8:7

And there was great joy in that city. Acts 8:8

Open Heavens Devotional Message
From Mark 11:22-24, we understand that it is possible to move mountains. What is a mountain? It can mean a hindrance to progress. It can also be an obstacle preventing you from reaching your goal. A mountain can also be anything standing between you and your destiny. A hill is a problem while a mountain is a problem of a higher magnitude. Contrary to what many think and desire, mountains can really be useful. A mountain can be God’s own way of advertising you. Israel did not know David until Goliath came to the scene. God used the incessant harassment of Goliath to bring David to limelight. The mountain, through which God will advertise you, may you not run away from it. May it fulfill its divine purpose in your life!

Moreover, a mountain could be God’s way of waking you from sleep. In Acts 12:1, when Herod killed James, the church kept snoring, but when he grabbed Peter, they suddenly realised that if they did not do something about it, he would not stop at Peter but also kill the rest of them. So they began to pray. Are you sleeping spiritually? May the Lord get your attention by using a challenge to wake you up. In addition, a mountain can be God’s avenue for drawing you closer to Him. God can use it to develop you spiritual muscles. For instance, it was while Joseph was in prison that he became an interpreter of dreams. Until then, he was a mere dreamer.

Also, a mountain can help you to discover your potential. Philip never knew he had the potential to be a great evangelist until the intense persecution against the church that scattered all of them. Until then, he thought it was not enough for him to aspire to be an outstanding deacon, but when his friend and fellow deacon – Stephen was killed, and Saul was throwing Christians into prison, he ran and that was how he got to Samaria and brought joy to the city after leading them to Christ. You may never really know what is in you until you face a big problem. Henceforth, problems will have their positive effects on you.

Acts 8:8

It is great to be God’s firebrand. But what could make a firebrand lose heat? This can happen when it is isolated from its source of fire. This means once you are a firebrand, do everything possible to remain connected with your source of power. God is our source of power and the greatest of fires originate from him. Hebrews 12:29 says He is a consuming fire. The fire of God is very fiery. His fire is the one that neutralizes all other types of fire. When the three Hebrew children were thrown into Nebuchadnezzar’s fire which was the hottest fire as at that time, nothing happened to them because the more superior fire was already there before their arrival. God’s presence turned the enemy’s furnace into a suitable environment (Daniel 3:19-27). At the presence of the consuming fire, all other fires lose their efficacy. Similarly, when this fire came down in 1 Kings18:38, it consumed what literarily fire cannot consume – stone and water. During ordination, we usually pray that the Almighty God will overshadow those ordained. By this we mean that God will rule over them. If a firebrand is isolated from fire for long, it can lose its flame.

In addition, a firebrand may lose its heat and become cold if it keeps the wrong company. If you take a firebrand and drop it inside water, what happens? The fire will go out! 1 Corinthians 15:33 says no matter how good you may be, if you continue to associate with evil people, it will definitely affect you some day. This is why 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns us not to be unequally yoke with unbelievers. We can simply explain Amos 3:3 to mean, show me your friends and I will show you who you are. Who are your friends? When you meet, what do you talk about? Do you talk about soul winning, anointing, expansion of God’s Kingdom or you discuss sports, politics, fashion, economy, etc.? If you will be a firebrand and sustain it, you must be prepared to review your friends. Strictly abide by the instructions given in today’s reading.

And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 2 Corinthians 10:6

Open Heavens Devotional Message
Another lesson from Elijah’s prayer encounter with God in 2 Kings 18:41-44 is that he kept praying until the seventh time before he got result. This tells us that God has a time table for everything according to Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. There is a right time to answer every prayer request. There is a right time for every miracle. Apart from faith and salvation whose right time is now, all other things have to wait for their appointed time. The appointed time for a given blessing or miracle varies from one person to the other.

Three couples could wed on the same day but the right time for them to conceive and have their babies may differ from one another. Ten friends may graduate from the university on the same day, but the right time for them to have a decent job might vary one from the other. My prayer for you is that your right time will not pass you by. In addition to this, some people erroneously believe that because there is a right time for everything, they should therefore expect delays in every blessing. This is not true. The right time for certain miracles may not wait beyond five minutes. Some can be within one or more hours. Some can be within a day. Some blessing can come to you now. May you not miss your time now!

God does everything to time. In 2 Kings 5:1-14, Naaman remained a leper even after dipping the sixth time; but as he dipped the seventh time, he came out with a brand new skin. If you have not fully paid the price in prayer for certain requests, they will not be granted. This is why Matthew 7:7-8 says you must continue to ask. The seventh time speaks of completeness and perfection. It is when your obedience is complete before God that you can avenge the disobedience of the enemy in your life. Have you obeyed God fully in prayer, waiting on the Lord, praise and worship? Have you won all the souls God expects you to have won by now? Arise today and work towards completing your obedience so that your blessing too will be complete.

When a bird flies, it is usually with two wings. A bird cannot fly with one wing. As a divine wing, you need your two wings to fly. 1 Corinthians 1:22-24 talks of these two wings. It says while the Jews seek for signs, the Greeks seek for wisdom. Both are found in Jesus Christ and you need both to enjoy your flight. The power of the Holy Spirit brings the miracles and by the grace of God, for many of us, this is becoming a regular feature in the midst of God’s people. However, the area where many are lacking is in the area of wisdom. It is disturbing to know that many of us want benefits without responsibilities. In Isaiah 1:19, we see both sides: your responsibility is that you must be willing and obedient before the benefit of eating the good of the land will come.

Acts 1:8 also speaks of both sides; it says you will receive power as long as you are prepared to be a witness of the goodness of the Lord. Do you want more anointing? Hebrews 1:8 says you must love righteousness and hate iniquity so that the anointing can come. There are some people who are asking for more anointing through prayer and fasting and God is equally ready to give them, but He will not because they are not prepared to mortify their flesh. Some have not dealt with lust for the opposite sex; some have not subdued covetousness while others are still harbouring pride or unforgiveness

If God answers that prayer and releases the anointing, it will not only backfire on them but also on God’s Kingdom. In other words, why some have not received answer for more anointing is not because they have not prayed enough but because they have not balanced their request with a commensurate level of righteousness. Are you the one hindering the fresh and higher move of God in your life? Address the issue of holiness in your life, speech, dressing, attitude, deeds and thoughts. Be clean through and through.

Being a midwife is a highly sensitive and delicate assignment because if care is not taken, instead of facilitating life, the fellow might be facilitating disability or death. If negative impressions are registered in the hearts of young converts, they become almost indelible. Any believer who is supposed to be light but fails to radiate that light will definitely midwife souls in a wrong way. Today, many of us are sending souls thirsty for the Kingdom back to the world because of the love of money. A leader who condones sin and disobedience because the person in question is a financial supporter would find it difficult to uphold the truth of God’s Word.

As a result of this, he would either have no standard or operate multiple standards. When a financier offends, he will speak of mercy, but if it’s another person, he will wield the big stick. Such leaders forget that people, particularly young converts are watching them with keen interest. If converts who were expecting to see God’s standard of holiness see something even lower than what they left behind in the world, are we not encouraging them to go back to their vomit?

“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”
Matthew 18:6

One very unfortunate thing among Christians is the tendency to forget that every action would bring about some reactions. If people really believe in eternal judgment, they would avoid offending young converts like hell. A young sister gave her life to Christ and found herself in the midst of older believers – both male and female, they all put in effort to encourage her growth in the faith. But among them was this brother who was supposed to be the head of their Christian group. He sought to be alone with this young sister and to lure her into fleshy lusts. When this became rampant, she began to wonder if fornication was allowed in the Christian faith because she did not know better until God helped her. are you painting Christ as a devil by your deeds?

Read:
Isaiah 43:18-21

18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

20 The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.

Open Heavens Devotional Message
Everything that has a beginning also has an end. The only reason God has no end is because He has no beginning. If your problem has a beginning, it must surely end one day. The woman with the issue of blood suffered for 12 years but finally, it came to an end (Mark 5:25-34). In Luke 13:11-13, a woman was sick for 18 years but finally, the sickness ended. In the same vein, the man who was born blind was blind for 40 years but after this, his sight was restored (John 9:1-7). If you can trace the beginning of your problem, then it will surely end. The man at the pool was there for 38 years. He kept hoping for healing but the healing kept eluding him. He was looking out for an angel but the creator of angels personally showed up, and that was the day he went home (John 5:2-9). Have you been expecting a particular breakthrough or healing or deliverance or blessing which has been eluding you over the years? This season, your desire shall be granted. That problem is ending now and your new season begins now!

However, it will amaze you to know that there are some people who do not want anything new. Some of them are afraid that it is better to continue with the impoverished lifestyle they grew up with than to enter a period of abundance that may erode their faith in Christ. Be encouraged and fear not. The new is always better than the old. No matter how good an old car is, it cannot be compared with a new one. Light is far better than darkness. Light is new while darkness is old. Some people have become so used to suffering, lack, failure, or barrenness that they have not only adjusted but have also resigned to fate. Don't! Never accept any condition that God does not want you to live with. Reject it and accept the new and it shall be well with you. Something new is coming your way.

SOMETHING NEW IS COMING BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.2 Corinthians 5:17

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16

Read:
Galatians 5:16-18

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. Galatians 5:17

But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Galatians 5:18

If you look at the way saints of old overcame the old serpent, you will discover one simple method that can be applied most of the time. That method is to do the exact opposite of what the devil expects. In every situation of temptation, God has a particular way of escape for you. In the same vein, Satan has his own expectations regarding how he wants you to respond. You are the one in-between these two forces and therefore you are the one to determine which one you will choose. A safe way out is to always go contrary to the expectations of the devil. For instance, when the devil tells you to see something, you will know that a temptation and a trap is hiding somewhere, so refuse to see what he wants you to see. When he tells you to go and pay a visit to the opposite sex at an ungodly hour, simply refuse. If you obey him, you will surely regret that act.

When Satan tempted Jesus in Matthew 4:6, he justified his request with a scripture. He may ask you to visit the opposite sex at 10:00 pm because you have not seen the fellow in church, and because we are to be our brother’s keeper. Simply tell him, every good thing has its right time and back it up with what Jesus told him:

“It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God”.

Satan loves to be worshipped. It is obvious that one thing that made him to desire independence from God was the way he, the billions of angels under him and all other creatures in Heaven worshipped God. He was jealous of this unprecedented worship and thought of how he too could receive worship. Ever since he broke away, he has forced and demanded worship of men of and of fallen angels. He was so carried away by his crave for worship that he demanded worship from His creator – Jesus Christ, when He came as a man (Matthew 4:9). So, in all you do, never give credit or glory to Satan. Never bow before him or his agents and never worship him. Refuse to say what he wants said concerning a given situation. Don’t eat or drink what he wants you to take. Pray and evangelise when he gives you reasons not to. Always go in opposition to him and you will overcome.

Bible In One Year:
Numbers 4-6

Action Point
If Satan could ask Jesus to worship him, he will surely demand the same from you. Be on the look out!

Memorise:
Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life. Proverbs 7:23

Read:
Judges 16:15-21

And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth. Judges 16:15

And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death; Judges 16:16

That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man. Judges 16:17

And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand. Judges 16:18

And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. Judges 16:19

And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him. Judges 16:20

But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house. Judges 16:21

It is pretty difficult to catch an eagle because of the altitude at which it flies. If you fly high spiritually, it will be very difficult for you to be caught by Satan’s traps. However, occasionally we successfully ensnare and capture eagles we sight flying overhead in the jungle. To capture a sighted eagle, we clear a space in the jungle from which it can be monitored. This space also gives it a clear view of the bait we set for it. As bait, we set a robust chicken with a rope tied around its neck so that it can only move within a circle in the space we have created. Eagles love chicken so when it sees it, with speed it will zoom downwards to pick it up; but the rope will not let it go with the chicken. Before it realises what is happening, we would have covered it with a net. This is similar to how the devil gets the divine eagles. He uses what they love most as bait. This is why you must be wary of anything that appears too good and yet too easy to get. It could be a bait to get you into Satan’s snare.

In the name of Jesus, the food that will lead to your destruction shall fail to appeal to you. May the Lord open your eyes to see Satan’s bait that is presented to you as food. The devil knew that Samson loved strange woman so he used Delilah as bait. Samson was a high flier but sin reduced the divine eagle into a powerless, blind and mocked captive. Also, Gehazi had the opportunity of becoming the greatest eagle of the Old Testament but his love for money stood between him and his God. It is sin that stops high fliers. If you are flying high for God, run far from sin. If you are winning several souls for the Lord, run away from sin. Be careful with converts of the opposite sex because Satan does not mind getting you into sin with your converts. A minister of God was spending time to build his female converts and before long, Satan caught him. His convert became his regular sex partner whenever he was starve of sex by his wife. Be very careful and watchful.

SEEK HIS FULLNESS BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Ephesians 3:19

Read:
Ephesians 3:16-21

That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; Ephesians 3:16

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, Ephesians 3:17

May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; Ephesians 3:18

And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Ephesians 3:19

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Ephesians 3:20

Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. Ephesians 3:21

When you build up your spirit man and your relationship with the Holy Ghost, He will be able to use you to do the incredible. Stephen was an ordinary deacon but because he had built himself up in Christ, he was full of the Holy Spirit and power, with great signs and wonders coming out of him (Acts 6:5-8). It is what you have full of that will spill out because Matthew 12:34b says,

“…. out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”

Many prayer effort amounts to wanting to give what you don’t have. If you are full of the Spirit, with little or no effort, you will birth signs and wonders. Many people are empty of the Spirit yet they want to birth signs and wonders. They will simply have disappointments. Do you know you can be filled with the fullness of God? (Ephesians 3:19). Why stay, live and minister empty of God when you can have all His fullness?

What is important with God is not how many years you have been born again but how close to Him you are. It is not what title you bear on earth but the title you are known by in Heaven. It is also not what position or ecclesiastical office you occupy but how full you are of His Spirit. If a week old believer is full of the Spirit, God will use him to do the incredible. Most people have misplaced priorities. They are busy struggling for money: in their dreams and thoughts, it is all about how to get money, yet they wonder why they are not seeing miracles through their lives and ministries.

Others are busy struggling over positions and title as if these are what will give you the anointing. No! There are many pastors who got to the peak of their anointing on the day of their ordination. After their ordination, they went to sleep. No wonder workers who are not even ordained but are seeking for the fullness of the Spirit are more anointed than them. Stop fighting for what is not! Give your attention to seek more of Him. The more you have of His Spirit, the more like Him you will be in signs, wonders and character.

Bible In One Year:
John 4-6

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. James 2:18

James 2:14-17

What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? James 2:14

If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, James 2:15

And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? James 2:16

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. James 2:17
Open Heavens Devotional Message
Elijah in 1 Kings 18:41-44 brought an end to a situation of famine that had plagued the land for three and a half years. We can learn from the process he went through in order to bring about the manifestation of change in this situation of drought. In addition to hearing God, declaring what He had said and intense prayer, the man of God also added some other action. He asked his servant to keep going back to check the skyline for signs of rain. James 2:14-17 says the faith that fails to be backed up by works is a dead faith.

One lesson here underscores the need to be spiritually alert while praying. Why? If you watch and pray and you are spiritually sensitive, you will see the signs in the spiritual skyline that will tell you that your prayer has been answered. Sometimes, such signs may appear quite insignificant or almost unnoticeable, yet, if you are sensitive enough, it will not pass you by. When you watch and pray, you will not pray blind prayers any more. When you pray, do you watch out for signs of answer to your prayer?

On the other hand, there is need for works to give life to your faith. Hebrews 11:6 says God rewards those who diligently seek Him. Do you seek Him diligently? Yes the tide is turning for your good but you’ve got to act and go beyond prayer. If you need a job, you need to write and forward your applications to organisations and follow them up, asking whether they received your applications, the time for tests and interviews etc.

As a student, if you want to come out in flying colours, you must study. In 1964, my professor told me you have to go over a given text 10 times if you truly want it to stick in your memory. If you want to reach the top, acquire a skill. Whatever you are doing, be very good at it. If you are a tailor, carpenter or fisherman, be the best in that field. God is looking for diligent, hardworking and skilled people that He will prosper. One of my friends introduced his brother to me as a tailor who just qualified and requested that I patronise him. I gave him some material to sew a pair of trousers and he sewed something else. I told my friend that his brother is a barber and not a tailor. Be diligent from today!

Bible In One Year:
John 1-3

Action Point
Some signs may be a flash of less than a minute, ask God for grace not to lose divine messages.

What Kind Of Flight? – RCCG Open Heavens Devotional Monday 10th September 2013
WHAT KIND OF FLIGHT? BY PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

Memorise:
And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. Isaiah 46:4

Read:
Isaiah 46:3-4

Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb: Isaiah 46:3

And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. Isaiah 46:4

Open Heavens Devotional Message
Every genuinely converted believer in Christ is raised up ad set up to sit in Christ Jesus in heavenly places. For such people, Colossians 3:1-4 should be their watchword. Since they are seated in heavenly places in Christ, they should have their eyes set on things that are above, they should also love and desire things that are heavenly. One reason a lot of Christians are not experiencing motion by flying and a reason why some others crash while flying is that they are still looking at the things of the earth, instead of heavenly things.

Looking at flying from a spiritual perspective, there are at least two ways to fly: with your own energy and with God’s energy. When birds fly, they usually spend their energy; but a man who travels by an aeroplane flies without any effort. He does not sweat, he eats and drinks, watches video and even has the luxury of using the lavatory while flying. He may strike a business deal with someone or he may decide to sleep, all while still flying. It is not enough to decide to fly; you must equally determine how you want to fly. In Exodus 19:3-4, when God was bringing the children of Israel out of bondage, He carried them on eagles’ wings. None of their individual or collective effort could free them all these years, but when God intervened, He delivered them from bondage and placed them where the enemy could no longer touch them.

Moreover, when a bird is flying, if it has any item to take to its destination, it would have to carry with its beak. This is a form of load which could also act as a drag on the bird while in flight. It is not easy to fly and at the same time carry a form of load. If such load is heavy, it will retard the speed of flight of the bird. However, if you are flying in aeroplane and you have any luggage, the aeroplane will carry both you and your luggage. Isaiah 53:4-5 says that God is not only able to carry you, but also can carry your burdens. What are your cares today? What are the things causing worry in your heart? Lay them at His feet by prayer and leave them there. After telling the Lord, like Hannah, stop worrying about them from that moment.

Bible In One Year:
2 Samuel 22-24

Action Point
Cast your cares and burdens upon the Lord in prayers and watch Him bare you up on eagles’ wings.
