Seven Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires By Grant Cardone
Learn how to generate multimillion-dollar wealth and enjoy the journey on your way to the top.
First, understand that you no longer want to be just a millionaire. You want to become a multimillionaire.
While you may think a million dollars will give you financial security, it will not. Given the volatility in economies, governments and financial markets around the world, it's no longer safe to assume a million dollars will provide you and your family with true security. In fact, a Fidelity Investments' study of millionaires last year found that 42 percent of them don't feel wealthy and they would need $7.5 million of investable assets to start feeling rich.

This isn't a how-to on the accumulation of wealth from a lifetime of saving and pinching pennies. This is about generating multimillion-dollar wealth and enjoying it during the creation process. To get started, consider these seven secrets of multimillionaires.

No. 1: DECIDE TO BE A MULTIMILLIONAIRE
You first have to decide you want to be a self-made millionaire. I went from nothing — no money, just ideas and a lot of hard work — to create a net worth that probably cannot be destroyed in my lifetime. The first step was making a decision and setting a target. Every day for years, I wrote down this statement: "I am worth over $100,000,000!"

No. 2: GET RID OF POVERTY THINKING
There's no shortage of money on planet Earth, only a shortage of people who think correctly about it. To become a millionaire from scratch, you must end the poverty thinking. I know because I had to. I was raised by a single mother who did everything possible to put three boys through school and make ends meet. Many of the lessons she taught me encouraged a sense of scarcity and fear: "Eat all your food; there are people starving," "Don't waste anything," "Money doesn't grow on trees." Real wealth and abundance aren't created from such thinking.

No. 3: TREAT IT LIKE A DUTY
Self-made multimillionaires are motivated not just by money, but by a need for the marketplace to validate their contributions. While I have always wanted wealth, I was driven more by my need to contribute consistent with my potential. Multimillionaires don't lower their targets when things get tough. Rather, they raise expectations for themselves because they see the difference they can make with their families, company, community and charities.

No. 4: SURROUND YOURSELF WITH MULTIMILLIONAIRES
I have been studying wealthy people since I was 10 years old. I read their stories and see what they went through. These are my mentors and teachers who inspire me. You can't learn how to make money from someone who doesn't have much. Who says, "Money won't make you happy"? People without money. Who says, "All rich people are greedy"? People who aren't rich. Wealthy people don't talk like that. You need to know what people are doing to create wealth and follow their example: What do they read? How do they invest? What drives them? How do they stay motivated and excited?

No. 5: WORK LIKE A MILLIONAIRE
Rich people treat time differently. They buy it, while poor people sell it. The wealthy know time is more valuable than money itself, so they hire people for things they're not good at or aren't a productive use of their time, such as household chores. But don't kid yourself that those who hit it big don't work hard. Financially successful people are consumed by their hunt for success and work to the point that they feel they are winning and not just working.

No. 6: SHIFT FOCUS FROM SPENDING TO INVESTING
The rich don't spend money; they invest. They know the U.S. tax laws favor investing over spending. You buy a house and can't write it off. The rich, in contrast, buy an apartment building that produces cash flow, appreciates and offers write-offs year after year. You buy cars for comfort and style. The rich buy cars for their company that are deductible because they are used to produce revenue.

No. 7: CREATE MULTIPLE FLOWS OF INCOME
The really rich never depend on one flow of income but instead create a number of revenue streams. My first business had been generating a seven-figure income for years when I started investing cash in multifamily real estate. Once my real estate and my consulting business were churning, I went into a third business developing software to help retailers improve the customer experience.

Lastly, you may be surprised to learn that wealthy people wish you were wealthy, too. It's a mystery to them why others don't get rich. They know they aren't special and that wealth is available to anyone who wants to focus and persist. Rich people want others to be rich for two reasons: first, so you can buy their products and services, and second, because they want to hang out with other rich people.

Today is the D-day. I wanted to wake up and read in night. Its morning already, I guess I didn’t wake up in the night lol. I dressed up swiftly and left for office. I picked the internet modem from boss' office. He wanted me to book return ticket for him. Unfortunately, it was too late to book and hold. Since aero took my money without sending any ticket, Im cautious of how I use my atm card for online payment. Besides I didn’t have money in that account. That reminds me aero is yet to reverse the transaction and give me back my money.

By 1:30pm I left for school. I joined Jeremiah in his car to do last minute reading. The exam was slated for 4:00pm, trust Nigerian time factor, it started later. Three section questions to answer four as usual. I answered one from section A, two from section B and one from section C. I can beat my best like the gorilla and say I did well. Failure know me not. I left after the exam.

Since Caesar's boss came back from America he has been very scarce. I stumbled on him this evening. We had a little chat catching up before I went home. I fell asleep before I could say zzz.

I woke up around 3:30am, trying to figure out what to wear. I don’t have any ironed shirt nor trouser, there was no power. I need to be in church before 7:00am. I employed the age long technique of spraying a little water on the rumpled shirt and hang it to dry. Then I got a fairly neat looking trouser. I read a little and fell asleep again knowing fully well it will affect my wake up time.

I set my alarm for 6:00am and almost tied it to my head. It rang and I did what every alarm disobeying person will do. Unfortunately/fortunately for me I didn’t turn it off the first time I heard it, it may not be the first time it rang. I remember clearly pressing something to stop the alarm but I didn’t remember why I set the alarm. The last rang that woke at about 6:39am I just have 21 minutes before its 7:00 and Im supposed to be there at least 5 minutes before 7:00am. Goddamn it! On top of that Im supposed to be on tie but Im not.

By the time I reached they had already started as expected. I joined. Topic was Baptism of Holy Ghost. After the class was a session serious Pentecost prayer for the holy ghost to fall those/us that are yet to receive it and thus speak in tongue. Im usually skeptical about the speaking tongue thingy. I don’t doubt there are genuine speakers, but Im also 100% certain some fake it. Yeah that Im even 1000% sure. Im well armed with that knowledge right from my Scripture Union days secondary school. I didn’t fake it then we know those who did and those who made fun of it. I prayed that the spirit of doubt be removed from me and they prayed for me to speak in tongue.

My mind went blank, I couldn’t even remember the common ones I hear, not that I wanted to say them. I mumbled something like a child's first word. At a point my limbs felt so heavy, as if I was going to fall. My sub-conscience acted on its own feebly carrying my weight. It took a while before the heaviness gradually subsided. After the prayer ended I was still feeling a bit so-not-myself. Also I gradually became myself. I know something transpired, no denying it. I would like to have a fullness of it. The service was great. When I got home my mind still wandered about the experience. Then it drifted back to my studies.

Ibe was at home. I lay down to relax a little before reading. He fell asleep. I lost track of time lying there. Then PHCN brought light, less than five afterwards Ibe woke up. Like a timed-automated machine response, he turned on the television immediately his eyes opened. The way it happened its safe to say he actually sleepwalked to the television and finally woke up when the blaring volume hit him. My study room just transformed into a full HD 3D cinema.

I rested some more and just packed my books and went to the office to read. First I grabbed lunch from Shoprite. It was really comfortable reading in the office, if only it was very near to my house. I read until it was dark. I left a few minutes after 7:00pm. I got home to the echo of myself. I watched Inuyasha a little, you know the saying about all work and no play. The came in much later. I went to bed a little later.

Saturday April 06 2013, Personal Diary, Studying
I woke up late reason was I read in the night. My body system has changed. Once I wake up in the middle of the night to do something, it will surely affect my wake up time. It wasn’t always like this. I read my devotional and prayed. I really really want to read, but with the folks in my house who love watching television every time like its their life support bothers me. Of course if I don’t find anywhere to go read my book I'll have to tell them I need a serene environment to read. I'm pretty sure they'll read it the wrong way.

Read: What To Do When The Help You Gave Is Giving You Hell?

I need to do my laundry as well. I decided to go to our office and read, let me not bother anybody. First I yielded to the urge to wash my clothes. Amara left in the morning to she-knows-where. Before I finished washing, she came back. Amazingly the television was off, but guess what. Like faithful, devout religious individual who is divinely entrusted with the duty of watching television, the first thing she asked less than a minute she stepped in the room was why is the television off. Its unbelievable. She turned on the television instantly. I was like thank God I have ruled out reading here.

Read: New Song Coming

By the time I finished, it was a bit late for the office trip. As I was resting PHCN struck, there was power outage. Perfect timing. I haven’t been more happier for the gross incompetence and inefficiencies of PHCN like I was as they took the light. They left one after the other. I stayed at home and read. I read until around 10:00pm ocassionally taking brakes though before I fell asleep.

I woke up early around 2am to read. I read for about three hours before sleeping again. I woke up again around 7am. Read my open heaven, prayed showered and left for work. I'm supposed to go to school today. I need to print docket in colour. I stayed around till 11:30am before leaving for school. Traffic wasn’t that bad, I spend a excusable amount of time on the road. I went to Yaba office and the told me our forms have been sent to University of Lagos main campus. There was two signature spaces left. The process of signing is annoying, you go from one office to another.

First is bursary, next is the School of Post Graduate Studies department all in UNILAG main campus but at polar ends of the school. After that you go to the next town Yaba to sign and then come back to main campus again for the last signature. I find it very time consuming. Now I'm at Yaba waiting for the form to come back from the main campus. I thought all the signatures will be completed by the time the form comes back but it wasn’t. Are you kidding me? I had to go back to the main campus again. I have no choice. UNILAG SPGS knows how to give students school wahala. I did that.

When I came back to MBA Yaba office for final submission they gouged me of N5000 like others, giving it a fancy name. I went back to the office. It was late evening now. The food I bought from Shoprite was still in my knapsack when my boss asked if I had eaten. I said no, he gave me money to buy food. Fidelis his friend came around and they drank a bottle of champagne, they barely noticed I was there until they finished the bottle. I went home. Slept off immediately so I can read in the night.

I greeted the day a little early. I used that time to read one of MBA 804 materials I made a copy of yesterday. There was another textbook which I'm sure is somewhere in my box of textbooks. It didn’t take me long to find it. The exercise helped me rearrange that closet. So I killed three birds with one stone, I found the book, rearranged and decluttered the closet. I went to work late, my boss went to the embassy in search of visa.

I was all alone in the office. Done with office task I focused on personal stuff. He didn’t give me any task to do anyway. I read. I browsed. He swung by around few  minutes after four to pick the internet modem.  The bus I boarded looked like a boys brigade tour bus. A full bus with no single female passenger. Mehn the bus had very strong, pure, raw, concentrated ''Adam'' scent lol. My life experience keeps getting interesting.

I branched at Doc's place. I gave his son a toy horse. A few days ago I gave him an incredible hulk toy. The elder son was now telling me he would love to visit me to know where I stay so he can pack all remaining toys lol. I went home and started reading my book. Ibe and his wife weren’t around. They came in separately later.

I had an interview over the phone with one chic friend of mine. That’s what she called it. It was a fun session of texting back and forth. She'll text the question and I text back the answer. We did that till I didn’t see any more questions, I guess she fell asleep. I also hit the sack.

I woke with University of Lagos issue heavy on my mind. I woke up hail and hearty as well. I thank The Lord. I sent a text to my boss that I will be fellowshipping with UNILAG today, he said okay. Its the kinda decision you make and damn the consequences. I had already approved it myself, I was just letting him know and not for his approval.
I left for UNILAG around 10:00am. The road was fairly free. I got to school, paid N10,000 for late registration. I signed my course form with the bursary department and headed to MBA school Yaba. I have to sign there and then go back to SPGS school in Unilag, they sure know how to drag people around wasting their time. I was asked to come back by Friday to pick up the form for the final signature at SPGS school.

I met Vincent a course mate coincidentally he also scored 39 like me. He is retaking the course. He has gotten some materials from where I anticipated getting it from. I went back to the office afterwards.
